Painting to discover and inspire...
I paint to capture the spirit of the land that makes this country my home, through thick layers of gestural paint strokes.
I primarily use oils, palette knives and large canvases.
I participate in Plein Air contests around the country and received Third place in "PleinAair Daily" Booth Bay Harbor, ME in 2017; Third place in Town & Country, MO in 2016; Best of Show in Town & Country, MO in 2011; Best of Show in the “Farmer’s Market Quick Draw,” Booth Bay Harbor, ME in 2015 and Second Place in Moab, UT in 2015.
I reside in St. Louis, MO, painting the beauty of the Midwest.
“All manifestations of art are but landmarks in the progress of the human spirit toward a thing but as yet sensed and far from being possessed.”
– Robert Henri
Jodie Maurer captures the beauty and movement of the land in her gestural, thick, oil paintings. She is originally from the Midwest, and spent the past few years painting the landscapes in the Southwest. Recently, she moved to the Northeast. Maurer received a B.A. in Studio Art in 2011 from Principia College, Elsah, IL. Her paintings are in several private collections.
Her oil paintings are characterized by her signature use of the Impasto technique. The paintings invite the viewer in with their bold strokes. The movement of the light and color makes a rhythm, a song about the subject that is almost heard and definitely felt, bringing you to the bottom of the falls or out on the boat tossed in the wind or giving you the feeling of reverence and appreciation for our country.
Maurer started her flag series with the hope that they would stand as a reminder of the greatness of our country and its origin. Their bold colors and almost rugged look remind us of the mighty struggles our nation has been through, and that it still stands brave and victorious. Each flag has its own inspiration and interpretation from her travels across the States.
